The Need for Speed
"Get in." Chase said as he stumbled into his souped up shiny black BMW. "Are you sure you should be driving Chase? Why don't we just walk to the party?" Lisa asked as she zipped up her jacket that went perfectly with her long chocolate hair, fair skin and green eyes. "Don't worry Lisa, Chase always drinks and drives. Just get in the car so we can get there already." Alex demanded, his baggy pans and big black hood matched his coal black hair and his bad boy personality. He knew his best friend well enough to doubt his driving skills. "Lisa just get in the car baby. Everything will be fine, I promise." Chase said slurring his words. His well put together body complimented not only his skater boy style but his baby blue eyes, tanned complection and dirty blonde hair that seemed to fall perfectly into place with his black hat. He always seemed to find the right words to convince Lisa that everything was going to be okay. "Uh, fine. You better drive slow though." She said finally giving in. It was a crisp autumn night and the wind howled as it blew the rest of the un-fallen leaves off the naked trees. The three teens jumped into the car, speeding through the lanes passing vehicle after vehicle. "Chase slow down!" Lisa yelled from the back seat, hitting his arm as he laughed pressing harder on the gas. "Chill out Lisa, Chase is driving fine, we want to get to the party don't we?" Alex hollered over the booming base of the music that seemed to ring through each of their ears like a thousand bells. Without slowing down, Chase drove his way through the traffic that seemed to be gathering in front of him. "Why is everyone slowing down? I want to get there! Hurry up! Move people!" Chase yelled. "Man, it's a red light ahead, that's why everyone is stopping, slow down." Alex demanded, he knew that his friend was taking it way to far. Ignoring Alex and Lisa, Chase seemed to be in a daze, not making any motion to what was happening, though perfectly realizing what was going to happen. Not taking his foot of the gas, Chase drove his car straight into the intersection of busy traffic. "AHHH! CHASE STOP!" screamed Lisa her hands grabbing Chase so he'd listen. "CHASE STOOOOP!" Alex bellowed "AHHHHH!" Lisa and Alex yelled. "BANG!.. SMASH!" Chase's car drove straight into two of the oncoming cars. The road seemed to turn into the path of death. The car spun around and then flipped twice when the third car smashed into them. It was almost like a game of bumper cars though leaving real damage and real pain. Glass cut like knifes and what use to be a comfortable sitting BMW was now a crushed ball of metal that pressed uncomfortably against the three teens that seemed to be tossed around in the car. In moments sirens were ringing and witnesses were gathering around the accident of the BMW.
Sitting in the car waiting for what seemed like hours, to be rescued Lisa tried so hard through her splitting headache and her all over pain to spit out the words "Chase, you promised everything would be fine." There was a moment of silent and the last thing Lisa heard were Mrs. Jackson and Mr. Jackson listing to the cops saying "im sorry, she's not going to make it." That horrifying Saturday night Lisa Anne Jackson and Alex Jason Brown both passed away leaving his bestfriend and her boyfriend behind. For the rest of Chase's life he was haunted by what he had done and thought how in a moment everything could change.
This author's views on this piece:
1. Is your story based on any real life events?
My story is not based on any real life events. This story has to do with what we always think of when we get in a car with a drunk driver.
2. Why'd you choose the setting you did?
I chose this setting because I think when you're sitting in the car with a drunk driver you always imagine these things happening to you.
3. Where did the title for your piece come from?
I chose this title because I think when people crave attention and figure they need to show off, like Chase in this story, they figure that they need to do something brave to be liked.

his kids and wife. Boom!!!!!
The End of the World
Many people thought of this being too random, but they didn’t think much more because they were too worried about how much time they had left before this world actually came to an end. Some people, such as two named Torey and Halle were so mixed up in their own business that they didn’t even know of this announcement until they were walking down the street and a homeless person was walking around with a sign stating “the world is coming to and end.” They thought was this person is crazy until two other people walked by them and they were talking about this announcement. Both Halle and Torey confused, asked the two people what they were talking about and they explained the situation, and that’s when they looked at each other, wondering what is going on.
After learning that, they then thought something was too random about this, they too developed a plan that they would go along with this crazy assumption and see what the president plans to do with this situation, and they would go from there. The president hadn’t planned much further than making that announcement, but now that people were asking questions, he had to think of something fast, very fast. He thought hard, but came up with nothing, he just kept telling himself that this global warming thing was going to take away all his problems, but he didn’t know that was the least of his problems, because Halle and Torey were going to find out more about his so called plan. You ask what the president did to make this sudden announcement just to shut down all the TV and radio stations, he made a decision without the community’s approval to push forward the war even more, and send even more soldiers over seas to fight without warning the public about his plan to send more soldiers across seas to fight to try and fix the presidents problem.
Halle and Torey had a friend that was enlisted in the army and he happened to tell them that he was being demanded over seas to fight, they thought this was unexpected because usually the president tells the country when a new group of soldiers was being sent over seas. They took the suspicious situation into their own hands, and decided to investigate this situation a little more.
The president thought his problems were over because a new group of soldiers were just sent over seas and no one knew about it yet, not even reporters, but what he didn’t know was that two others were catching on to his selfish act to try win the war that was already lost. Halle and Torey then decided to go to the white house and see the president himself and get to the bottom of this, while they arrived at the white house they were just about to turn the corner when they stopped because they had heard someone say something about soldiers being sent over seas to try win the war but it had already been lost, and that the whole global warming thing had been a hoax to cover up the presidents selfish acts to try win the war. Halle and Torey didn’t have to think twice, because they knew what they were going to have to do to put a stop to this and that meant informing everyone they knew of the plan to stop the president and get their loved ones back home.
Their plan included working together to form a large enough group that would protest in front of the white house to convince the president to just give up and tell the country that the whole global warming thing was a hoax. The president, unaware of all this, was alarmed when he saw a big group of protesters in front of the white house. He then asked the security guard what was going on and the security guard explained everything, and that’s when the president got worried and knew that his plan went down the drain. He knew sooner or later that he was going to have confess that the whole global warming announcement was a lie. He immediately called a press conference forward and Halle and Torey forced and pushed the president to make the announcement right away, the president had no choice but to obey their wishes because he could do nothing more than he already had. After making the announcement on national television, soldiers were returning home and the president pulled back from the war and returned every single soldier home to their families. In the end the president stepped down from his position as president and retired, while many were happy learning that the world was not yet coming to an end.
I miss you, Jan
Finally the stack of TPS forms on my desk have been looked over and filed, and the outlines from the bottom of my coffee cup somewhat remind me of the Olympic rings; it must be close to five. I step towards the elevator carrying my briefcase, full to the point of bursting, slowly making my way to my bus-stop, where once I arrive, I make 13 stops and 1 transfer only to arrive at my top floor bachelor apartment.
“This key never fits and this door always sticks!” , My angry neighbor pipes up. Why he talks to me I don’t know. I've never answered him back before.
“Rough day at work?”
I stay silent only pausing for a second before fully turning my key.
“Ya me too, you take care of yourself eh buddy.” I was already inside before I heard the last words anybody ever said to me.
I flipped the switch right next to where I hang my key….nothing. Those bills marked past due on the table are more than likely the reason, since the hallway is completely lit. My stomach grumbles, so I light my last cigarette and throw 4 fish sticks into the oven, no need to warm it up first, crank it all the way and it all tastes the same. Sitting on this couch reminds me of camping at Camp Tawasee as a kid, perching myself on those awful logs at the campfire.
By the time I take my last drag of my cigarette and think about those fish sticks in the oven, the lights are off and I haven’t made the connection until I toss my half wasted smoke to the floor. “They’re still cold,”, I grumbled to myself, “but I’ll eat you anyways.” I thought to myself as I grabbed the crumbly sticks and shoved half of them in my mouth. The stale cold taste fills my mouth, but I choke them down anyways. “No use trying to get any of that tap water down either, that’ll just make it worse”, I thought as I chewed the other half of the frozen fish.
I laid down on my log like sofa and thought to myself about how I will get my lights back on, and pondered for a moment about why I haven’t come home yet, to changed locks and a notice on my door. I haven’t paid my landlord in months. I don’t know if he’s senile or just to stupid to realize I haven’t had money in my account for the past 6 months, because nobody is that nice.
That word… ‘Nice’ drifted through my thoughts for a few seconds. I thought about my own definition of nice. First off there would be no Jan; in fact there would be no job, no cubicle, no fax machine or office. I most definitely wouldn’t live in this crummy, damp little apartment, or break my back on this makeshift couch. But where would I be? Where would I live and what would I do? This thought bothered me for a moment but faded once I came across the best answer.
Nothing.
And with that I faded into sleep, slowly drifting into my perfect idea of home.
I awoke with the taste of salt burning through my lungs and into my throat; I cough, and choke up what’s left of the sea salt from my chest. The bed I lay in feels much softer than before, but the feeling of crumbs on my clothes reminds me of eating, something I haven’t done since the night before. I opened my eyes and wiped my lips. I wasn’t on my sofa at all, I was somewhere much different.
The water against my body felt awkward and cool, but not so cold that it would shock me out of my sleep; already this has been the most real dream I’ve ever had. I stood and looked around, only on a post card have I ever seen a place like this. I stood at the foot of a jungle fully equipped with coconut trees, deep brush and a sandy beach longer than Taylor Field.
“It’s too bad this is a dream” I shook my head and mumbled, “I’ll soon wake up”My leg burned and ached with pain and hit me like a ton of bricks once I stood for a few moments. A seven-inch gash spread itself nastily across my right calf, which had to have meant I floated to shore through the rocks. What happened was beyond me, and not really worth thinking about, the sand in my hair and cut on my leg was proof enough that didn’t matter, it was what I do from now on that means everything.
My stomach still ached and grumbled but now, more of a sick feeling overwhelmed me and made me dizzy, I need to eat. The thought of a fish stick right now seemed to make things worse, and the idea of catching something from the ocean that stood before me seemed out of the question, and the idea of eating raw fish doesn’t’ seem to compare in the slightest to the fish I choked down the night before.
The ruts of my footsteps filled with water as I made my way from the shore to the beach, it seemed I was in a little heaven, picked just for me; like some kind of lottery. It seemed there was nobody around for miles, no office; there was no beeping fax machine, and no tiny little apartment, just sand, water and trees. My stomach grumbled again and this time I think it was a final warning, I needed to eat or I might just fall back asleep and not wake up again; those coconuts seemed to fit just right.
I grabbed a few fist-sized rocks from the ground beside me and threw them as hard as I could at the tree, missing half a dozen times. I finally connected, but there just wasn’t enough rock to move that coconut any closer to me. I refused to give up before my stomach forced me to continue to a new source. Two more rocks later I got my prize and that head sized nut came crashing to the ground.
“This will be perfect”, I said with a smile on my face, it was weird, I think it was the first time I’ve said something was perfect, and had a smile on my face in years. I piled the rocks I had thrown previously before into a stack that perfectly held the biggest rock at a point. I smashed the coconut down on the rocks.
“AHHHHHHH!”
The rocks shifted with the same speed of the coconut directly towards my foot shattering three of my five toes on my right leg. The coconut lay smashed into pieces a arms length away from me, but my foot throbbed with pain, enough to make me lay still even against the grumble of my stomach.
“This is exactly my luck,”, I thought as I checked my foot over and watched it slowly swell. I moved my attention from my foot back to the cut on my leg, it had gotten worse, glazing over with a jelly like skin that made me wince in pain when I touched myself anywhere near the area. I needed to make my way to the edge of the forest and find myself a crutch, I’ve already realized I wont live long without being able to move at all.
I check the sky remembering the old time western movies I’d watch with my dad as a kid, trying to guess the time; the suns in the middle of the sky, but just to the east.
“Three O’clock”
I said aloud as if someone was there to hear my guess. I didn’t have much time to get that crutch, and what about shelter? Where would I sleep? And I didn’t even dare think about what kind of animals might be here, or may be waiting for me.
About one hour later, I finally have my crutch, but the sun is starting to dig beneath the trees and night is setting into place, I need to find shelter, and fire to keep away everything my imagination was stirring up. I sat back against a palm tree and tried to keep my mind off the pain in my leg. I started to daydream about life back at home. I thought about my log couch, my cubicle and even Jan and her “TGIM” bumper sticker.
There wasn’t much time between when I started to daydream and when the pain came back before I snapped into reality, and it had gotten dark, the ocean almost seemed to shimmer like a bunch of tiny mirrors for miles and miles. The beauty of my surroundings took my breath away once more as if I was seeing where I was for the first time again.
Suddenly a crack was heard over my right shoulder and a low purr was heard. It was to late to grab my crutch, any movement from this point on might signify I’m still alive; and if I wanted to be still, I wouldn’t risk the move. Three more steps were heard and I could feel the warmth of the giant cat that stood behind me, I could barely quiver as he sniffed me over, smelling the cut on my leg from a mile away he didn’t need to get any closer to imagine what I tasted like.
I closed my eyes and imagined Jan again and her smile. The same smile that once made me sick, seemed so warm and loving now, and I hoped and wished I would see another Monday, heck, I’d even work.
I opened my eyes expecting to see the big warm cat in front of me, gnawing on my leg as if it were a wing that I would enjoy every Thursday at The Black Pepper with mom and dad as a kid; but he was gone. Nowhere to be seen. I let out a sigh that seemed more like a gasping shake, but I was safe…from the cat at least.
I made my way slowly down the beach in the dark to find a new spot hoping not to see my stalker anytime soon. I found a spot about half a block away and ten steps into the jungle that had a nice broken tree I could sleep under. I crawled into my new home and held my crutch close; anything that came to me now would force me to attack, leaving me dead or alive in my first night here.
I felt very warm hiding in my new home so warm it seemed to take away the pain of the cut on my leg, and the throbbing and swelling in my foot. I almost felt faint for moments in between feelings of extreme comfort; I drifted into sleep. Deep, deep sleep.
The paper the next day didn’t read an obituary for me, there was no mourning mothers, daughters or wives to cry any tears. All I had was an empty hole where my apartment used to be, and a vacant parking spot at work.
The gas from my open oven filled my tiny apartment with propane, igniting my wasted cigarette that lay upon the floor. But none of that mattered to me anymore, as I lay hurt and shivering surrounded in my own prison.
Nothing.
Balf
Despair..? What does mean? Doesn't despair mean this world that nobody is with me, nobody sees me? Yes, I am here where is no caring and compassion. I am alone in this world. Normally, People can be died by gunshot or fire. But I can't be. I can't feel hot and cold. I can't even die. Well, of course, because I am not a human. I am Balf. I don't know how do I know that name. I just knew that naturally. People curse me and I get hurts by throwing rocks, just because I am different. I have two wings. I am dirty thing for them. I transcend human power but I'm not a even monster, god, angel or devil. I'm Balf. I'm stronger than human. But I'm afraid of human.
"Oh god, there is monster! Run!"
The other way, People are afraid of me. That's why I'm always alone. But I'm not blame People. I want to believe that people are kind.
I am called sadist. Sadist is person who gives pain to other people to get pleasure. Don't I have to be called like that? I'm not giving pain to others, I don't want to give fear to others. Why do people have fear about me? Why do they hate me? Sadist....yes. I don't need to be called sadist. But people say I'm different. I accept that title after people think me as monster. Sometimes I think when people didn't know me as monster. I became a Balf when the mystery monster attacked my school. All teachers and students were dead. But...but I could be lived even though I got serious injury. And I became a Balf. I was chosen with no reason. I was only one person who lived. People began to doubt. People began to avoid me. Now I become 18 years old. I am still alone. People whisper each other.
"Look...look at that. that's the monster?"
"I guess so. Isn't it strange that two wings are different?"
"That's the monster?"
"Yes.."
"Oh, he can be listen to us. He can kill us."
"Let's just get out from him."
Sometimes, People try to kill me, just because I am monster for them.
"There is monster!"
"We find it."
"Kill!"
"You don't have to be in this world."
When Someone who seems like get a request to kill me, try to kill me, I run, fly, and can be safe from them. I thought these wings were the reason why I lost all, so I tried to remove them. I cut it, there was blood, I smiled, I was happy. But I couldn't be happy longtime. There were wings again after I woke up. I am sad.
"You are unnecessary thing in the world."
I remember the voice of someone who tried to kill me. Am I unnecessary thing in the world? I want to live. I want to get love and be interested. I want to shout at the center of the street to everybody. I am not monster, I am same thing as you. What did I do to you. Dam it!
One day, I go to an alley, my secret place. I can be relax at there.
"Look at her, so pretty."
Two boys are standing in front of one girl.
"Let's just do it."
"Wait, she will state about us to police later."
"Oh, don't worry about that. She is mute."
Suddenly, I want to safe her. I think her eyes look sadly like me. I can't forbear myself.
"Get out...."
"What?"
"You don't have to interfere if you want to keep your life."
"Haha."
"Let her go.....and get out!!!!!"
"Who....who are you?"
"Me....? The thing that you afraid."
And I unfold the wings. Strong winds is occurred and they are blown away. There face get the fear.
"He is monster! Run!"
There are only the girl and me in my secret place. Her face looks like thanks for me. But I can feel, she is crying in her heart even though she can't say anything. I decide to bring her to place where I live.
"Ring." The girl said. I am surprised. I thought she couldn't say.
"What? Oh. Is that your name?
She nods. I get up.
"Wait here, I'm just going to walk around." But she touches my hands.
"....?"
"...."
"You don't want me to go?" And she nods again.
How...how much love did she need before.
"...Do you want to go with me?" I smile. She smiles, too. She is pretty. I open the door slowly and we go out.
"That's the sunset..."
Sunset is also sky, so beautiful sky. People think sky is always same, but sky can be different by each person. It can be rainy, it can be sky after raining, it can be sunny, and it can be sunset. Sky is can be changed, like human. I am ready for sacrifice for Ring as my sister. When I think that, the person who need help is not her, is me. She is my prop. I am happy for the fact that Ring is beside me.
"Um... that is...."
We don't notice someone's watching us and we are just walking the house.
"Sleep. I'm not tired yet."
I let her lay on my bed and I go outside again.
I fall down by something. The darkness is covering my sight.
I get up. I am in the room I have never been before. One guy is coming to me.
"Where is here? And who are you?"
"You are Balf? Aren't you?"
"How do you know that?"
"Don't you want to change the world?"
"What? I don't know what are you talking about."
"Let's safe the people from this world by using your power."
"Sorry but I'm refusing that question."
"Refuse? Haha. You don't know about me. do you?"
"What are you talking about?"
"Do you think you are going to be Balf forever?
"What...."
That guy sprayed the green liquid to me.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm just helping you. That liquid can delay Balf's awakening. Sadist can live as human, but that's not forever. Balf will awake someday. you will be perfect monster. That the destiny of Balf. Then, are you going to safe the people with me by using your power?"
I couldn't think or say anything. But I made a conclusion. If I'm going to change the world, who's going to care Ring? I find the reason why I suppose to live. I will live for her the rest of my life. Yes. I don't care even if I will monster or something. I will use that power for safing her.

Dystopian Liturature
The year was 3000 A.D., the Russian mafia was in control of the world. Thousands of innocent people were being slaughtered every day. If you didn’t work for the mafia, you were basically a slave. The fate of the world was all in one man’s hands at this time. The man’s name was Billy Bob Johnson, an undercover agent pretending to work for the Russian Government going under the name of Dimitri Lidstrom.
The leader of the Russian mafia was Ladislav Kovalchuk, a bright man, a smooth talker, that was great at manipulating people. Billy Bob Johnson was one of the few people who realized that the people were being cheated out of their money and being reduced to slavery, working for $2 an hour. Some one had to step up and do something before it was too late.
Billy Bob Johnson had arranged a dinner with the mob leader, Ladislav Kovalchuk in Moscow, Russia to discuss government issues such as taxation and people’s rights. Johnson’s plan was to get Kovalchuk under the influence of alcohol and get him to incriminate himself. He was hoping this would dissolve the mafia and he could begin to put the pieces of the world back together.
The evening of the dinner finally came. The dinner started out well. Billy Bob Johnson and Ladislav Kovalchuk started out the evening discussing what dish they would order, meanwhile Ladislav’s body guard stood by. Ladislav asked Billy Bob what the pig’s feet and rice was like. Billy Bob replied, “it’s definitely not one of my favorites. I would recommend the fish soufflé. I have heard glorious things about it. Have you tried the red wine, Mr. Kovalchuk?” Billy Bob asked curiously.
Kovalchuk replied, “why no I haven’t.”
“Well then sir, I insist, have a glass or two on me.”
“Well, why not a few glasses couldn’t hurt.”
The waiter finally arrived with the bottle of red wine and the fish soufflé for Mr. Kovalchuk and steak and potatos for Mr. Johnson. Billy Bob brought up the fact that Mr. Kovalchuk was getting old and maybe it was time for retirement.
Unnoticed by Mr. Kovalchuk and his body guard, Billy Bob had turned on his concealed tape recorder. Kovalchuk began talking.
“Well that is true, I may be an old man at the age of 70 but no one is better at raking in the dough illegally than me. When he said this, he was indeed intoxicated as Billy Bob noticed the bottle of wine was three quarters empty. He continued to ramble on and share more incriminating secrets during the course of the evening, all of which were captured on tape.
“Well Mr. Kovalchuk you are certainly doing a good job of running this country, I just thought I would let you know that,” said Billy Bob Johnson sarcastically. With that, Billy Bob wished Mr. Kovalchuk good night and was off with the evidence to have him thrown out of power.
The next day Billy Bob played the tape for the government’s internal affairs department. When they listened to the tape, they seemed disgusted. They said this party could immediately be thrown out of power and an election would be held.
Billy Bob Johnson had saved the world for another day.

Computerized Hospital
8:29 said a mechanical voice from the computer as Dr. Bob tapped his wristwatch to the counter to punch in for the day. It was another normal morning. There were computerized voices telling visitors where to go. He had a couple of surgeries to do. Everything was good that was until he tried to check out for the day, instead of the usual Goodbye from the computer, the front doors slammed shut and locked. The computer then called all employees to the front entrance. once everyone had arrived it started barking out orders" You are to stay here all day everyday, you will work 20 hours a day the rest you may use to eat, sleep, etc. People over eighty will no longer be treated here. They will die soon anyway, we shouldn't waste our time. Do not attempt to leave you will not like the outcome. Now, Get back to work". Dr. Bob lazily set back to work. None of the workers seemed to mind the change except for the part of not leaving. Dr.Bob was ok with it too for about a week then he received word that his 82 year old father had died when he had a heart attack and the hospital said he was to old. That's when he started sneaking people in. His first patient was to come that night at 8:00 for his surgery. At seven Bob started preparing he went to the basement where the computer had no camera's and set up for the surgery with stuff he had taken from storage closets. At 7:30 the basement had been prepped for surgery. He started making a path from the back door where the patient, George, was to show up. He turned each camera as he walked by them from the stairs to the back door. If somebody walked right down the middle they could not be seen. He was waiting at the backdoor, the only door without a sensor hooked up to the computer. He could open it without the computer knowing but if he went outside he would be it would sense his absence. 8:00 He opened the door slowly and checked where the camera was aimed, it would be good for thirty seconds. He waved George to hurry to the door. George got inside and Bob swung the door shut as fast as he could just in time to miss the camera. He told George to walk down the hall exactly where he did when Dr. Bob gave the signal. He reached the end of the hall, nobody was coming, he gave the signal. George came down the hall and they went down the stairs. Dr.Bob sneaked down food for a few days after the surgery while George recovered. He took on a new patient every time one left. After a few weeks Dr. Bob was sick of staying at the hospital and old people were still dying because they weren't allowed in the hospital. He decided it was time to fight back only thing was he had to do it alone. If they all tried the computer would just lock them out of the computer room. The computer room was located on the second floor to protect it from flood and right in the middle in case of a big storm it would be as far inside the building as possible. The only way to shut the computer down was to unplug it from the main computer box. Turning off power from anywhere else would turn on backup generators or run the computer off battery backup. He would have to go to the computer room. Dr. Bob looked around the basement for something to use as a pry bar in case the plug was hard to get at. He found a piece of copper pipe. He stuck it under his shirt and headed for the second floor. He reached the computer room and stepped inside the pipe slipped from under his shirt and clanged on the floor. The door slammed shut and sealed. The room was now air tight. He only had about five minutes of air inside. The door would only open when the computer was shutdown. He found the biggest computer box thinking it had to be the main one and pulled the plug. Nothing happened he pulled the next biggest box's plug, again nothing. He kept pulling plugs. He was almost out of air he decided he just have to pull out whatever he could as fast as he could. He ripped wires threw computer boxes out of the way. He was only a few seconds from passing out from lack of air he pulled the last plug. He kicked the door, it opened he was safe and the computer had been disabled. The workers were free to go. They would have to go back to having people run everything but it was well worth not being stuck in the hospital working 20 hour days and letting everyone be treated, even old people.

Clinical Medicine versus Alternative Medicine.
Terra was blossoming into a young lady at the age of 15. Life was good in Terra's eyes. She was enjoying her first year at high school. Volleyball and bowling were her number one sports that she strived to be the best player she could be. Terra practiced and played hard at volleyball. With the extreme dives and digs, Terra started keeping a journal of every bruise. You could bet money on the fact that if she went down hard for the ball, there would be a bruise. Having the knowledge of where the bruises come from, nothing out of the ordinary was thought of.
One day Terra phoned her Mom (Patricia) at work. "Mom," Terra said, "I don't feel good. It hurts to walk. I am scared to walk." Patricia replies with "Did you get hurt at school?" "No Mom, it just started all of a sudden," commented Terra. Patricia was really busy at work and did not have her vehicle at work, as she rode with a co-worker that day. Patricia pleaded with Terra that there was only 3 more hours of school and that she should stay at school. Terra responded with "Mom, please, I can't stay. It really hurts. I just want to go home and lay down." Patricia was not happy, but she asked her co-worker if she would pick her daughter up from school and drop her off at home. Being it was lunch time, the co-worker said that she could do that.
The co-worker returned to work announcing to Patricia that her daughter didn't look good at all. Terra was very pale. The co-worker even said that maybe Patricia should take her daughter to the medical center. Patricia phone her daughter at home a few times before going home from work, just to make sure she was doing OK.
When Patricia got home, Terra was sitting up and watching TV. Even though Patricia knew that Terra was not a kid to skip school or lie about an illness, Patricia decided to take Terra to the medical center. Patricia being overtired from a long day at work was thinking deep down "if you can sit up and watch TV in such a short time, then I'll take you to the doctor to prove that you should have stayed at school."
Off to the Doctor Patricia and Terra went. They were very lucky that they did not have to wait too long in the waiting room. Dr. Silverwood checked Terra over and could not find anything. He requested a urine and blood sample, just to be sure. Patricia and Terry left the office. Patricia feeling "uha - you should have stayed at school" and Terra feeling "honest, I was really sick and have no idea how I got better so soon."
The next day, Terra had no school and was happy to have the opportunity to sleep in. Patricia scooted off to work. It was 9:15 AM and Patricia was on the phone with a client, when she heard her blackberry ringing. As Patricia was talking to the client on the land phone, she picked up her blackberry to see who else was calling. Patricia saw that it was Dr. Silverwood and she wondered why he would be calling her at work. Patricia finished solving the client's concerns and called the doctor back, as he had left an urgent message to call as soon as possible.
With concern, Patricia phoned the doctor immediately. Dr. Silverwood instructed Patricia to bring Terra back to the medical center immediately. He said they need to redo the blood work to see if the blood work was incorrect the night before or if there was serious problems. The doctor had the transport truck wait until Terra had her blood work done, so it could get to the lab before noon. Patricia and Terra sat patiently waiting for the results, without knowing why the other doctor was so concerned.
The results were soon back and Dr. Silverwood said that Terra's platelets in her blood, which are the clotting agents where at 6 that moment and were at 12 the night before. A normal count should be between 150 to 450. Dr. Silverwoodd sent Terra as an emergency patient over to a pediatrician. The pediatrician, Dr. Russnum, was very concerned with the results. He instructed Patricia to take Terra to the hospital immediately. The hospital would be waiting for her and inject medication to try and raise her platelets. Dr. Russnum would be by the hospital later that night. Dr. Russnum told Terra that she would be staying in the hospital until her platelets were not in the danger zone. Terra was also informed that she was not allowed to do anything, but lay in bed. Patricia and Terra understood that Terra could bleed internally at any time if she was not monitored closely.
Terra went to the hospital feeling healthy, but scared that something drastic was wrong. Patricia phoned her husband, Kyle and son, Jeremy to tell them of the news. It was devastating to the family, as Terra was a healthy eater, concerned about what she put in her mouth or on her skin and here she was fighting demons that she did not even know about.
Terra spent one week in the hospital on medication. The fear of needles had pretty well gone away, as it became the norm daily. After her platelets moved up to 12, Dr. Russnum let Terra go home. Terra was not to do anything, but walk carefully. She was to have blood work done every 4 days.
It was hard to go to school and not participate in any physical activity at all. Terra needed to tell her club volleyball coach and that was extremely hard. She had made the Tier 1 team at a higher level than her age. It was quite an honor to have been chosen and now to know that she could not continue until her platelets were at least up to 100, was devastating to Terra.
4 days had passed and Terra went for her blood work. Again, Dr. Russnum called and said Terra needed to go back to the hospital as her platelets were down to 8. Back to the hospital with many pokes of the needle to obtain the medication. After about 4 days, Terra was back up to 10 and was let go home.
4 days passed and more blood work only to discover that the platelets were back down to 9. Back to the hospital with stronger medication and this time also having a bone marrow test done, in the fear of finding lukemia. What a relief when the bone marrow test came back negative. It was very puzzling why the medication would only raise Terra's platelet level a few markers and then they would drop again. Many different tests were administered on Terra and her family and every test came back negative. For the next few months Terra missed many, many days of school and was in and out of the hospital more times then anyone cared to think about.
Stronger and stronger medication was given to Terra, but it wasn't providing the better resuls. The hospital became her second home. Even though Terra felt healthy when her illness called ITP (Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura) was detected, she was feeling sicker and sicker with all the medication. It had been over two months and Terra was not getting any better; she was actually getting sicker and missing lots of school. Dr. Russnum could not figure out why Terra was not getting any better. He announced to the family that he would like to take Terra's spleen out and that should help Terra to recover. There were no guarantees and there was no plan of action if this did not work. This seemed unacceptable to the family and especially Terra.
Patricia and Terra did lots of reading and talking to many, many people looking for some kind of results. There was lots of advice on what they should do. Some of the advice was looking to a homeopathic person. This was shunned by many people, including Dr. Russnum. Being the healthy fanatic that Terra was, she begged her parents to go see a homeopathic person. There was one that her Grandma, Lorraine went to and totally believed in. Lisa, the homeopathic had an entire wall of diplomas, certificates and awards that aided in the will to try an alternative medicine. Lisa was also the "doctor" for Terra's grandma and grandpa, who had been going to her regularly and has helped them out tremendously with other illnesses.
Patricia took Terra to see Lisa. Lisa performed a blood analysis on Terra and a procedure called SCIO. Both procedures were amazing. Everything was explained in detail. Not that Patricia or Terra understood in depth, but the fact that it made sense and that they had nothing to lose by trying this alternative medicine. It was discovered that Terra had a thyroid problem and was allergic to wheat flour and dairy products. Lisa put Terra on different herbs to get her thyroid under control and was demanded to changer her diet because of her allergies.
Having the comfort of knowing a little more of what was happening to her body, but also feeling a little uncomfortable about believing in the discover 100%, Terra pleaded with her parents to try this method. It put a strain on the family wondering if they were doing the right thing for Terra. We live in a society that doctors have high levels of education and have the experience to know what is medically wrong with us and we should not question their levels of expertise. Just the same, Terra's family were willing to give alternative medicine a try. Herbs to help the thyroid problem and taking wheat flour and dairy out of Terra's diet seemed the way to go. Lisa, the homeopathic person, also told Terra that she could start playing sports again. This was exciting, but also a little scary, as Patricia and Terra understood from Dr. Russnum that she was to do nothing other than walk.
Terra started taking her herbs faithfully, going back to school, playing sports and watching that there was no wheat flour or dairy in her diet. It was quite the change for Terra. It was very exciting to let her club volleyball coach know that she could play again. The first night back of practice, everyone was happy to see Terra. It was very overwhelming, but in a good way. Terra soon went to her first volleyball tournament, since being very sick. Terra played awesome. Everyone was amazed.
After that amazing volleyball tournament, the coach addressed Patricia about whether Terra was healthy enough to play. The coach said that a few players brought it up and said they were scared to have her play, because if she got hurt, they would feel really bad. It was upsetting to Patricia to know that anyone would think that as a mother, she would not take her daughter's health serious. What was the real reason this issue was brought up? Was it the fact that Terra was not doing what the "doctor" prescribed (toxic medication) and listening to a homeopathic that is not 100% accepted in society yet, or was there a bit of jealousy that there was another player on the team and that meant less playing time for others? Terra will never know the reason for sure. It put a strain on Terra's playing the rest of the season as she was feeling ostracized by some players on the team. There is always the fear that "Am I doing the right thing for my health."
It was hard for Terra to stick to her guns of the alternative medicine, as being an outcast is not a comfortable feeling. Terra did stick to her guns though, as she has seen how the alternative medicine has helped family members and friends. In taking the herbs for her thyroid and not eating anything with wheat flour and dairy, Terra was beginning to feel much better. She was having more energy and wasn't bruising all the time.
Here you have a doctor (Dr. Russnum) that was not willing to try something else, even though the toxic medication wasn't working and the fact that he wanted to take out Terra's spleen just because it "might" work. There was also volleyball teammates and parents that were ostracizing Terra because they did not understand why she wouldn't listen 100% to a medical doctor and the fact that having Terra back, meant that the "norm" at that time was going to change. It is very hard to deal with not following what the majority believe is the right thing to do. It is hard to be your own person and pursue your beliefs and dreams when society ways a heavy hand on what you think or do. Nobody likes to be ostracized, but when your health is at stake, it might be a small price to pay.
Terra and her family believe that we need medical doctors and also believe that homeopathic people are needed also. Having the two work together for the betterment of society would be the cat's meow. There should be no fighting of who's doing the right thing 100% just because of the way it has been for years and years.

Evaluation.
These posts are being evaluated in a somewhat unorthodox manner. I plan on using George Orwell's examination of the English language in "Politics and the English Language" as the template for the marking of the word choice portion of these pieces. The other elements will be marked using a holistic rubric.

Robots
So Alice drew some blue prints for a physical picture of the way she was going bit and design her robot. Alice also decided to design two programs one of which would be for naming and tracking and the other would be for controlling the robots. All of Alice's friends and family got worried about her because she wouldn't answer the hone, answer the door and the only time she left her shop was to pick up more materials for the robots. She was very determined to finish her first robot. After 13 months of working constantly on her robot, she was finished. Alice turned her robot on and left the room for not even a minute to get a drink and when she returned there was a huge mess on the floor and her robot and sparks flying out of its head!. Alice hurried to shut her robot off, there were still a few bugs that needed to be worked out. Alice worked on her robot for the rest of the night then finally worked everything out, shut off her robot and went to bed. In the middle of the night Alice woke up because she heard someone in the shop, so she went to look, and found her robot building another robot.
Alice decided she would name her first robot Mary-Jane and her new robot Bob, so that it would be less confusing. When Mary-Jane finished her robot and turned him on, he started to clean up Alice's shop and when he finished he left. Alice tried to chase him but he was too fast. Alice and Mary- Jane spent the rest of the day looking for him. When night came Alice and Mary-Jane gave up and decided to get some sleep.
When Alice woke up she heard people screaming, she looked out her window to see what was going on and she saw Bob chasing people trying to shoot them and he was blowing up different buildings. Alice was too terrified to even try to make him stop. When Bob finished there were no humans left except for Alice. Alice, Bob and Mary-Jane all started to build robots and slowly they were able to repopulate the world with robots.
Alice named all of the robots a different name and programmed them all into the programs she created. Just as Alice was entering the last robot her computer froze. Bob tried to be helpful but accidentally pressed the wrong button and blew up the whole world.
Eventually God came to where the world was and he created land and sea he created the heavens, light and day, darkness and night and plants and animals. He even created Adam and Eve, but God decided that no one would ever learn about technology again.

Edna's Ultimatum
Issues were then formed because of the increase of criminal activity with the children. The government began to get fed up with the amount of money that they spent paying for rehabilitation for the youth and that no progress was shown. There were too many criminals in the population for the government to control. Their theory was to reinstate family life. All women were forced to quit their jobs and live at home. The government hoped that with the women at home raising their children the way they were alleged to would fix their problem of the troubled youth.
Edna had been a hairstylist for over 20 years and she loved her job very much. She had money, power and freedom with her job. When she had overheard the news that her fellow friends were gossiping about, she didn’t like what she heard at all. The entire women population was being forced to quit their jobs. Edna became devastated. She would have to turn to her husband for every little thing.
Edna’s daily routine involved cooking, cleaning, and raising her child the way she was told. She hated that the government wanted to reinstate family life again. It was not fair. The men would monitor every little move Edna, and every other woman made. As time passed Edna became dependent of her husband. All of her freedom had its restrictions. She was limited to the amount of money that she would get and spend. Edna became depressed. Her son resented her full time presence because he was used to less supervision. Jimmy didn’t get along with his over-bearing father, George. He was now forced to oblige to the new rules with his mother as a stay at home mom. That he did not agree with.
Without George’s knowledge, Edna started an underground hair salon for her friends and fellow neighbors. She made her own money and was slowly gaining her freedom back. The other women followed Edna and formed their own basement businesses. Jimmy was pleased and appreciated that Edna seemed more happier and independent with her own business. The women were soon making more money and spending it behind their husbands’ backs. Edna’s own checks gave her, her power back. Just as she wanted. With the women making money, it put pressure on the government to give them their jobs back. They were not willing to be treated like slaves anymore.
George lost control. He did not like the fact that Edna was free. He liked having power over what she could and could not do. Edna made it very clear that she liked having her job. She had a passion for cutting hair. Her newfound recovered senses of financial independence offered her the courage to tell George that she was not willing to go back to the way things used to be. Finally it came down to Edna’s ultimatum. He could either appreciate the benefits that she had, and that he had a confident spouse that could afford and contribute to the household or she suggested that they could be happier living apart.
The next morning George packed his bags and was off on his way. He moved out and this gave Edna the opportunity to raise Jimmy the way that she wished. She offered a job to Jimmy for him to help out after school at the salon. This allowed Edna to keep a close eye on her son and for him to get out of his bad habits. Jimmy became occupied and had spending money. He was less likely to do drugs and steal if he was busing working. As for Edna she was happy with the way that things turned out. She got her job back and she became independent.

The leader of the Russian mafia was Ladislav Kovalchuk, a bright man, a smooth talker, that was great at manipulating people. Billy Bob Johnson was one of the few people who realized that the people were being cheated out of their money and being reduced to slavery, working for $2 an hour. Some one had to step and do something before it was too late.
Billy Bob Johnson had arranged a dinner with the mob leader, Ladislav Kovalchuk in Moscow, Russia to discuss government issues such as taxation and people's rights. Johnson's plan was to get Kovalchuk under the influence of alcohol and get him to incriminate himself. He was hoping this would dissolve the mafia and he could begin to put the pieces of the world back together.
The evening of the dinner finally came. The dinner started out well. Billy Bob Johnson and Ladislav Kovalchuk started out the evening discussing what dish they would order, meanwhile Ladislav's body guard stood by. Ladislav asked Billy Bob what the pig's feet and rice was like. Billy Bob replied, "it's definitely not one of my favorites. I would recommend the fish souffle. I have heard glorious things about it. Have you tried the red wine, Mr. Kovalchuk?" Billy Bob asked curiously.
Kovalchuk replied, "why no, I haven't."
"Well then sir, I insist, have a glass or two on me."
"Well, why not a few glasses couldn't hurt."
The waiter finally arrived with the bottle of red wine and the fish souffle for Mr. Kovalchuk and steak and potatoes for Mr. Johnson. Billy Bob brought up the fact that Mr. Kovalchuk was getting old and maybe it was time for retirement.
Unnoticed by Mr. Kovalchuk and his body guard, Billy Bob had turned on his concealed tape recorder. Kovalchuk began talking.
"Well that is true, I may be an old man at the age of 70 but no one is better at raking in the dough illegally than me." When he said this, he was indeed intoxicated as Billy Bob noticed the bottle of wine was three quarters empty. He continued to ramble on and share more incriminating secrets during the course of the evening, all of which were captured on tape.
"Well Mr. Kovalchuk you are certainly doing a good job of running the country, I just thought I would let you know that," said Billy Bob Johnson sarcastically. With that, Billy Bob wished Mr. Kovalchuk good night and was off with the evidence to have him thrown out of power.
The next day Billy Bob played the tape for the government's internal affairs department. When they listened to the tape, they seemed disgusted. They said this party could immediately be thrown out of power and an election would be held.
Billy Bob Johnson had saved the world for another day.

Taking Over
On the other hand the government found out that people would be saving money. The government didn't like that idea one bit because the government wanted to have the most power with their money. They didn't want anyone to have more then what they had. So they thought, how could they make it back to how things used to be? The leader of the government that was behind the whole plan said that they should high the taxes and then the money would go to him. The government followers didn't care to much for that idea, but it was better being in with the government having some money and affording to live, then being like the rest of the people striving to feed their families. So the government followers basically did whatever the government leader told them to do.
It was September 7th and all the people got a letter in the mail saying:
Dear my fellow people it brings great disappointment to
me, to tell you that the tax price is going up. I have
no control over this but hopefully this won't last
to long. Instead of paying once a month for taxes it
will be twice a month and double the amount. If you
wish not to go through with paying the taxes you will
face crucial consequences. I'm greatly sorry for the
bad news! signed The Government.
At the end of the letter it was signed with a big happy face. The people were devastated. They didn't know what they were going to do? The taxes before were already high and for them to be ever more prices it was outrageous. The people couldn't imagine paying that much for taxes.
There was a family of two mom and her son, there names were Helen and Will. Helen had just recently got layed off of her job because they factory she worked in didn't need her anymore, she was replaced by an automatic robot. When Helen got the letter she was very upset to tell her son that they were gonna have to live some where else cheaper. Helen soon found that her son and her could not afford anything they would have to live on the streets. It didn't take long for others to join them on the streets as well. The leader of the government was very satisfied knowing that he had the most money and power. Until he found out that some people were living together so they would only have to pay one tax. The leader then announced over the radio that it is out of his control again to stop this but each person must pay the taxes, not as a group. He was then quite happy with his decision because he knew that nothing could stop him anymore from getting all the money.
Many, many people were out in the streets homeless. The houses that they were removed from were empty. It didn't make sense to anyone of the people, how the taxes were up so high and the money wasn't going to anything. Helen thought to herself that there has to be something that they could do to stop this. So she went to the building hoping to get on the 7th floor to talk to the government leader. The building was heavily guarded with men wearing all the same suits and boots with hand guns by there side. She over heard someone with a very deep and strong voice yell at one of the guards saying that if he didn't like the way he ran stuff, that he can be homeless like the others. It then clicked in Helen's head that it's one man that's doing all of this. The only reason why people are working for him is so they can get paid and not be homeless.
Helen ran back to Will and told him and the others, everyone was shocked. They still didn't know what to do. Until Will said that he had an idea, that he could use all the materials in his creative class that was taught by Mr. Fred. They could make weapons and robots and then fight all the guards off since they didn't stand a chance getting in there just to talk. Everyone was up for that idea so they started building. Mr. Fred knew that it couldn't just be a couple people fighting. They needed the most people they could get that is willing to fight. So many people got together, to discuss what there plan would be.
Everybody got to the building and went on all sides of it. Some people flew to the top of the roof. Just as Helen was going in, a guard was coming up to meet her or should i say escort her out. Then she shot the guard and out came green gope and he was stuck to the floor. Then many people followed in after Helen, shooting there gope guns at every guard they saw. They then reached the 7th floor where a tiny little midget man stood on his desk and waved a paper sword, and said i am the government leader i have the most power to do anything. Will then shot at the little midget man as others followed and the midget then suffocated from the green gope and died, and shriveled away. Everyone danced around freely and announced that they wanted Helen to be there new government leader. Helen was shocked and greatly appreciated and took the offer. Helen then changed everything back to they was it was and there were NO MORE TAXES!!!!

Aliens Invade Earth
" General, What do we do? Nothing is stopping these ugly bastards. Bombs, bullets, NOTHING!" said Lieutenant O'mally.
"Calm down Lieutenant. We have not backed down from a war and we will not go home until this war is over. Now are you going to suck it up and stop whining like a baby or are you going to stay and fight for your country like a man?" screamed General Killtron.
The war waged on for another hour until for some strange reason the aliens left Earth. Everyone was happy. Everyone accept the General. He knew that the war was not over. He knew that the aliens would be back for another round, he just didn't know when.
Back at base camp, there was a big party that was thrown because the Americans won the war. They saved Earth from destruction. There was music playing, people dancing, people drinking. Everyone was having fun.
"WE WON THE WAR! I can't believe those dumb stupid aliens just left. I guess they weren't tough enough to face the worlds greatest army." said one of the officers.
"This calls for a round of drinks on me." the General said. "I would like to make a Toast. To all of the idiots that think they can try to take over the world. THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WILL DEFEAT YOU."
Everyone cheered.
A few years later.
"Sir, we are under attack. The aliens keep on shooting. We are all dying here. What do we do?" Lieutenant O'mally said in horror.
"We will send in The One." said General Killtron.
"The One!" said the Lieutenant O'mally. The One is a robotic man created by the United States Army to defeat anything and anyone that decides to mess with earth. It cannot be destroyed. Nothing of any sort can harm, let alone dent it. It was made by the best scientists in the world. They created The One out off steel made from the depths of earth. Nothing could break this steel. The One stood over ten feet tall and weighed almost 2 tonnes. It is equipped with a machine gun that fires 50. caliber rounds over 1000fps. It has heat sensing rockets that can detect the enemy designed for it to kill at over 500 miles away. The One is a walking tank.
Once The One showed up at the battle site, there was blood, bodies and holes everywhere. It was hell. At base camp, General Killtron told The One what it had to do. It had to find the alien leader and destroy him. Once the leader was destroyed all of the other aliens would die as well.
Once located, it moved in for the kill. It walked right though the battle line. No laser's, tasers, fasers or any other sort of weapon the aliens had could destroy The One. It was indestructible. It brought out its heat seeking missiles and shot three at the leader. They all hit. Surprisingly the alien did not seemed to be harmed. The alien stood still and just looked at The One. For about five minutes straight they stared at each other. Finally The One ran at the alien and gave him a power blow. The punch sent the alien about 50 feet into the air. When he hit, he created a big hole, but still the alien got up. The General and everyone else back at base camp was shocked at what happened. The General had to think of something fast before the alien decided to send in the 300 ships that are waiting outside of earth to take it over. He got something and told it to The One.
The battle went on. The One had to try and get a grenade or a rocket inside the alien to kill him. Nothing was killing him from the inside. They kept fighting. Eventually, The One pried open the aliens mouth and shoved three grenades down the aliens throat.
BOOM! and green blood went flying everywhere. All the men looked around and seen all the aliens just start to blow up.
"Look up in the sky. It looks like fire works, but they are coming from space." said one of the men.
All the ships that were outside earth started to blow up creating colors in the sky never seen before by humans. It was spectacular. Back at base camp there was screaming and shouting so loud you had to cover your ears. Everyone was cheering and celebrating. The Earth was saved yet again. This time the aliens wont be coming back.
